Movement Snack: Reset Practice

Jan 20, 2022 | Written by Leticia Padmasri

As a general guideline, Ayurveda recommends three, sometimes two, meals per day at the optimal hours each, and between meals we let our digestive system rest.

This way, our digestive fire is well kept up and it will be ready to “cook” that next meal!

So I was thinking that we could substitute that munching craving with some MOVEMENT SNACKS. What do you say?

Do you know that our physiology runs on a foundation of movement? We need to move and we need to move a lot! While it is wonderful that you have your daily exercise slot, if you spend the rest of your day with very little movement, you are already experiencing a movement deficit.

Each month of this new year, I will share with you a movement snack. This way you give your body what it is really craving and give your digestive fire a break! Double win!

For this month, your movement snack is a reset practice for your core that can be done on the floor or on a chair.

We are so used to bracing or holding in our abdomen the entire day that we don't spend very much time moving our core dynamically. This practice is a bit of a reset for your core. It's a reset for your abdomen, your pelvis, your pelvic floor, your diaphragm. It is really a reset for your nervous system.

If practicing it on the chair, you can do the same: relax your abdomen, your head and if you have something underneath your hips you can also allow your pelvis to tilt forward a little bit.

Until next time… keep moving!
